The Astbury Conversation

A prestigious line up of speakers has been announced for a two-day online symposium, that this year will be free to attend.

Seeing into Cells is the theme of the 2022 Astbury Conversation

In line with previous events we will have a Nobel Prize winner as a keynote speaker. Richard Henderson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2017, joining past speakers Brian Kobilka (Nobel Prize 2012) and Michael Levitt (Nobel Prize 2013).

Richard will speak on recent innovations in cryo-electron microscopy and deliver the the plenary public lecture:

“Zooming in on the molecules of life”

Other speakers include:

Marc Baldus (Utrecht University’s Bijovet Center for Biomolecular Research)

Wendy Barclay (Imperial College London)

Bernd Bukau (Center for Molecular Biology of Heidelberg University)

Bridget Carragher (New York Structural Biology Center)

Alf Honigmann, Tony Hyman (Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics)

Syma Khalid (University of Oxford)

Wanda Kukulski (University of Bern)

For researchers wanting to know about the latest developments, or those simply interested in learning more about the hidden – but fascinating – world of macromolecules, the Astbury Conversation will help provide new insights and understanding.

The Company of Biologists launches new journal websites

The Company of Biologists has migrated its leading journals to the hosting platform of Silverchair, improving user experience and maximising the discoverability of their content for the biological community.

The Silverchair Platform now hosts The Company of Biologists’ five influential journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms, and Biology Open. The journal websites, available via https://journals.biologists.com have been given an updated, modern design, with additional functionalities, such as split-screen view for easy data reference. Moving platforms has also given the Company’s journals access to a range of partner integrations via the Silverchair Universe.

Silverchair prides itself on offering its clients easy-to-use tools for site creation and updating. The Company of Biologists is also pleased to offer its institutional customers an enhanced administrator functionality.

“We have enjoyed collaborating with The Company of Biologists team on their migration and are thrilled to see their important content now launched on the Silverchair Platform,” said Thane Kerner, Silverchair CEO. “The Company of Biologists joins a community of nonprofit publisher peers who need a cost-effective, independent platform that offers them the agility to create new sites, collections, and products as quickly as their needs change and new opportunities emerge.”

“We’d like to thank both Silverchair and our internal teams for all the work and effort that has gone into this important project”, said Claire Moulton, Publisher at The Company of Biologists. “We believe that joining this platform gives us greater flexibility as we evolve the ways in which we present content to our communities, enhancing our service to readers and authors.”
